Day of Caring 2008 – Another Rousing Success!
On September 10, 175 County of Sonoma employee volunteers joined 75 fellow volunteers from the City of Santa Rosa and hundreds from local businesses at Finley Center to kick off the 2008 Day of Caring. Volunteers arrived at 7:30 a.m. to find a festive set-up, including breakfast and banners, with DJ Doug Uyehara bumping a lively groove. Supervisor Tim Smith, City Councilperson Lee Pierce, and executives from the United Way all reminded us of the importance of the Day of Caring and the fact that making a difference in our communities starts with each one of us taking action. Energized and inspired, the County and City volunteers charged off to tackle and complete 25 projects - residential sites and community centers, Regional and City Parks, creeks and trails – improving the City and County in which we live. Whether it was helping a less fortunate citizen, improving a park for all to enjoy, painting over graffiti to beautify the County and City, or cleaning and restoring a creek bed, these projects made life in Sonoma County a little better.
